ONE Championship has announced the addition of a featherweight submission grappling match between Shoya Ishiguro (Carpe Diem) and Ruan Alvarenga to ONE Fight Night 48: Erdogan vs. Elliott, taking place on October 2 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok [1]. The match will be 10 minutes long and broadcast during U.S. primetime [1].
This will be Ishiguro's first featherweight bout in ONE, having previously compiled four victories at flyweight and bantamweight [1]. According to the ONE Championship official website, Ishiguro is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt from Tokyo and one of the leading representatives of the Japanese grappling scene [9].
The 29-year-old ARTA Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor has earned decision victories over Japanese black belts Eiju Saga and Hiryu Niwa among his four wins [1]. Sources note that Ishiguro "can threaten opponents in several aspects of grappling" and has "demonstrated the ability to finish before the final bell" [1].
His opponent Alvarenga is a Brazilian athlete [1].
